Institute of Asian Research – Policy relevance informed by local knowledge

Founded in 1978, the Institute of Asian Research (IAR) is an international leader in research and teaching on contemporary Asia. The Institute is composed of five research centres (China, Japan, Korea, India and South Asia, and Southeast Asia) and several collaborative projects and programs.  The Institute focuses on generating interdisciplinary collaborations that connect deep local knowledge to inform perspectives on contemporary policy issues important to Canada and the broader Asia Pacific region.

Master of Arts – Asia Pacific Policy Studies (MAPPS)

The Master of Arts in Asia Pacific Policy Studies prepares students for careers in government, business, and NGOs and can also serve as a foundation for doctoral studies.   A variety of courses taught in small classes, with resources across campus, and with regular interaction with policy practitioners offers a distinctive graduate school experience. The program is organized into 6 thematic streams: Economic and Social Change; Security; Gender and Development; Governance and Human Rights; Infrastructure Policy; and Cultures and Representations of Asia.
