Nelson Rand, a Canadian journalist wounded in Bangkok analyzes the Thailand conflict

By Asia Pacific Memo on August 24, 2010

Memo #14

By: Nelson Rand

In a 7-part video interview at the Institute of Asian Research at UBC, Nelson discusses the assistance he received as he recovered from his wounds. Also in this interview, he defines who the Red Shirts are and discusses the difficulties in initiating reconciliation following the conflict. In Thailand, Nelson says there is room for excellent investigative journalism reports to find out what the Red Shirts are currently doing. Unfortunately, he says the media business is focused on breaking news stories. He also addresses why Canadians should not be worried about travelling to Thailand. Even during the height of the turmoil, the conflict was limited to a small area in Bangkok.
